WEBINAR DESCRIPTION
The webinar will include an overview of the diagnostic approach for TB, review the process of how M.tuberculosis is identified from a fixed tissue specimen, highlight CDC Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch’s service and logistical aspects through the use of case studies. The target audience for this webinar is TB program staff, including clinicians, laboratorians, public health nurses, and other public health professionals.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Review what tissue-based laboratory diagnostic support that CDC’s Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB) can provide for possible cases of M. tuberculosis.
  • Discuss diagnostic techniques used in pathology to identify M. tuberculosis.
  • Recognize when CDC’s IDPB can be helpful in evaluating patients with possible M. tuberculosis.
  • Illustrate the importance of communication between the TB clinician and laboratory.
